International Women’s Day 2019

This year I featured in a video celebrating all the different women at my workplace. Hearing all these women from different backgrounds share what women’s day means to them, their achievements and some of the greatest challenges they have experienced as women, I realized one thing. Irrespective of nationality, religious background or level of education, women experience the same challenges, one thing that kept on appearing in everyone’s interview in different forms is the fact that they are looked down as women, the fact their voice has been silenced in one way or another. I am encouraged that those hurdles …

My 2018 Highlights

Sharon Nabwire

As I begin this new year 2019, I decided to take some time off and reflect on 2018. I must admit it has been both a challenging and rewarding year. The challenges taught me more about myself. Although it might sound like a cliche’ we are stronger than we think we are. I would like to share some of the highlights that made 2018 awesome – someday I might share the challenges; I started the year in Uganda spending it with friends and family that I had not seen for close to three and half years. I couldn’t have asked …

Lessons I learned through my Solo Travel to Bali

I recently had the opportunity of traveling alone to Bali. Although the thought of going solo to a place I didn’t know anyone was daunting, it turned out to be a fantastic trip. The people, the food, and the vibe of some cities were utterly incredible. I got to learn a few things about myself and life;      Solo traveling takes you on the journey of self-discovery We are always trying to discover who we are, our potential and why we do the things we do. Given our busy schedules, it’s almost impossible to take some time off for self-reflection.  Solo …

Not the Typical Korean Membership Training

Last weekend I attended my second Membership training (MT) in Korea. MTs are social events conducted by Universities or companies in a bid to build team spirit and encourage colleagues to socialize outside the school or work environment.  I spent two years in Korea doing my masters, and surprisingly I never attended any of these training. The events usually happen for two days and involve the team spending the night at a location far away from the city. I had quite a strange experience at my first MT; we traveled to Daeseong two hours away from Seoul to a rented …

12 Life Lessons I have learned in my 30s

Life Lessons, Inspiration

A few days ago, I celebrated another birthday. As the years go by, I am grateful for this gift called life; sometimes birthdays might seem like a reminder of the things we have not yet accomplished. Nevertheless, I am thankful for health, strength, for the opportunities, and the misfortunes. In the past year, I have had my fair share of highs and lows. I failed to go home as I had earlier planned not to mention missing the significant events of dear ones. However, I traveled to Ghana, presented at my first international conference, got a job in Korea before …

Happy Women’s Day 2017

I must confess, I have never really thought about the importance of Women’s day except that I looked forward to having another public holiday back then in Uganda.  (I seriously miss these public holidays). But today, even though I don’t have a day off at work (not that I am complaining) I kept on thinking about the importance of this day and my role as a woman. A few things were done at work today by our male colleagues to celebrate us women; One of the male colleagues made us cups of tea and offered us nuts, Later on, we …

Oceans (Where Feet May Fail)

“Oceans (Where Feet May Fail)” You call  me out upon the waters The great unknown where feet may fail And there I find you in the mystery In oceans deep My faith will stand And I will call upon Your name And keep my eyes above the waves When oceans rise My soul will rest in Your embrace For I am yours and you are mine Your grace abounds in deepest waters Your Sovereign hand Will be my Guide Where feet may fail and fear surrounds me You’ve never failed and You won’t stop now So I will call upon …

Best of 2016

I had a slow start to 2016 but was expectant to having a great year. My focus was on completing my master’s program and taking the long awaited trip back home. Little did I know that God had a different plan for me. If someone had told me in 2014 that  I would stay in Korea for more than 2 years, I would never have believed them. Here, I am still growing strong. The first months of 2016 dragged on coupled with my fair share of challenges. Even so, the second half of the year I had some incredible experiences. …
